《北方音乐》杂志1981年创刊，创立初期为双月刊。《北方音乐》立足“以人为本、老少兼顾、注重实用、突出服务”的宗旨，以“发现和挖掘大批优秀音乐人才”为己任。当前，为增加我省音乐创作队伍和人才推荐作用，期刊栏目不断更新与完善，既是专业人士的绿地，又是音乐动态、媒体传播的窗口；既是艺术新人的平台，又是展示自我、推荐人才的摇篮；既是了解全国音乐前沿与走向的良师益友，又是创作天地和学习音乐知识的好帮手。
